Using the NLMD
The data stored in the NLMD comes directly from the farmer and includes information about individual animals, treatments, movements and much more. The NLMD takes each animal and integrates the information into a number of aggregate reports that can be viewed to see trends and statistics for individual farms (where registered), particular regions or areas.
Who can use the NLMD?
- All Cattle and Sheep Farmers, whether Pedigree or
Commercial - Farming based Groups, Societies and Co-operatives
- Related agricultural businesses, such as agents,
auctioneers, abattoirs and vets
What are the benefits of using the NLMD?
The reporting functions of the NLMD give the individual farmer the ability to create reports on their own data, identifying animals that have received treatments and the return they have provided the farmer. Using this information, the farmer can see trends in their stock and focus efforts on animals that will provide the greatest return.
So how does it work?
Data is sent to the NLMD using the automated function provided in the FarmWorks by Shearwell Data farm management program. A typical transfer of data will take a couple of minutes and the data is stored as a backup to your FarmWorks data. This is beneficial to the farmer as it means your animal information is held off the farm on a secure server. The data used for the reports in the NLMD comes from these backup files that the farmers send in. The data remains the property of the farmer, and permission is given to use the information in aggregate reporting (where the data is ambiguous and cannot be traced to the individual holding or animal) or for the farmer's own use.
